New Zealand's national cyclcaisse d'epargne cyclinging federation BikeNZ has come to the rescue of the financially hamstrung PureBlack Racing team, with the two organisations forming a partnership that will see the team able to continue in 2012. Those ambitions were dismantled however in December of last year when finances dried up, and a difficult domestic economic environment proved debilitating to the team's future. "The impact of the Rugby World Cup and the Christchurch disaster have made it a really tough year to raise funding for cycling apparelemerging sports like cycling and international programmes like PureBlack Racing," said Greg Cross when he reported on a grim future for the team late last year. "PureBlack Racing has done a great job of promoting cycling, both in New Zealand and internationally andbicycling apparel has proven they have the talent, management and technical expertise required to support an international cycling team. We have too few teams like PureBlack and Subway Pro Cycling and cannot afford to lose these bianchi cycling jerseys bibsexpertise." Turner explained that the use of facilities and a shared calendar made it a natural extension to create a partnership that could benefit both parties.

I hear you, Odessa. I'm not worried about ametuar cyclists or anyone with a brain. I'm concerned about the minority who use any shred of there I told you so to continue to fan the flames of anti-cycling. They're a declining number, yet with the press latching onto every opportunity to fan the flames as well, we need to keep the conversation positive while minimizing all opportunities for distractions from those positive messages. I've been involved in cycling promotion and advocacy for a long time and will always press for keeping the conversation on-topic and positive, and that includes minimizing these distractions. The simple act of flipping the photo is a bit of artistic license that removes this particular distraction, without spoiling the beautiful setting and great shot.
