On Thursday night (Nov, 28th) we officially launched our Before Crowds Collection. The drinks were flowing, the crowd was pumping and shit got weird. A great party, one we will remember for a long time.
Here is the press release:
Remember the 80’s when the world of surfing turned up the volume in every way! Colours were brighter, shorts were shorter and moustaches existed outside the month of November. Everything was rad. Everything was iconic. Rusty has re-release some of those epic designs for their aptly named 'BC' Before Crowds range.
To announce BC's arrival to the world a global launch party was thrown in collaboration with Highs & Lows at the Perth inner city haunt of Uncle Joes Barbershop & Mess Hall. Gage Road Brewing Company ensured the beers were chilled and plentiful, and Sailor Jerry kept the guests well hydrated with their Caribbean-distilled rum.
The Mess Hall kitchen was sizzling throughout the night, serving up muchas gracious Mexican tapas. With haircuts courtesy of Uncle Joes Barber Shop and the Red Engine Garage band kicking it through the night mucho good times were ensued. The launch party was pumping with a guest list of 100 plus, revelers including WA’s fashion and streetwear peers together with the surf industry cartel. Not forgetting those less fortunate, a custom Rusty surfboard was auctioned on the night with all proceeds going to the relief effort for the tragic Philippines Typhoon.
Big thanks goes out to Uncle Joes Barber Shop & Mess Hall, Highs and Lows, Gage Roads Brewing Company, Sailor Jerry, Uppercut Deluxe, Sex Wax, It’s Now Cool and Red Engine Caves.

Do you remember back in the 80's when the surfing world turned up the volume…? The colours were brighter, the shorts were shorter and the moustaches? Well they existed… Everything was rad. Everything was iconic. It was a time when heavy metal flourished and everyone had a hard-on for the hard core. Ironically, it was also a time when the lineups were less crowded you surfed because you loved it. You lived it. Rusty’s new BC Collection pays homage to that era ‘Before Crowds’.
Focusing on the iconic ‘R-Dot’ logo, this re-release of product is a showcase of some original pieces from the Rusty range. The cult pieces, that weren’t about being cool, or on-trend, didn’t matter who wore them or where they were seen, it was the pieces worn before, during and after the waves. Spread across base colours of black, white and grey marle, the BC Collection features three pop prints, all with a standard 80’s front and back placement. Each print is available in both a t-shirt and fleece option.
Creative Director of Rusty, Simon Lafranchi describes the BC collection;
“When trying to decide which prints to use, we actually raided Rusty Preisendorfer’s personal wardrobe. When he started the brand back in 1985 as a surfboard line, he spent three months just creating the R-Dot logo we all know and love. With that kind of dedication, we knew he would have only kept the best pieces of clothing for himself. These are the cream of the crop.”
Much like the surf culture back in the 80’s heyday, the re-release of the BC Collection isn’t about overcrowding. Offered only to select core Rusty stockists the range is being kept to limited quantities. This gear will not turn up in the mainstream.
The Rusty BC collection will be officially launched on Thursday November 28th. The range will be available online in very limited numbers and in selected Rusty Retailers.
